La Rentrée in France – the return to school after the summer break – marks the start of the new academic year and cultural season. Maison Lafont celebrates its centenary this year, and the internationally renowned family-owned company has collaborated with Sekimoto, renowned for its haute couture embroidery, to create a refined and unique frame. Thomas Lafont and Sekimoto Satoshi, artistic directors of Maison Lafont, combined their craftsmanship and couture skills to create an imaginative and beautiful design, with pearls and embellishments embroidered on the frame like a dress. Refined, light and elegant, Ouvrage is an artistic expression of French expertise in the style of Parisian haute couture, with all Lafont designs made in France.

Gotti Switzerland is launching two new collections in Silmo – Acetate and Titanium. The smooth, highly polished acetate is exquisitely crafted with soft lines and rich colors. Fuchsia, a hint of seaweed green, and an alluring earthy caramel brown (pictured) blend light and reflection. Hulda also features a delicate filigree gold metal inlay, attached to acetate with square rivets, showcasing the perfect detail that is a hallmark of Götti Swiss design. There’s a lot to shine in the Titanium range – a lightweight yet sturdy frame with metallic nuances.

Nature—the sea, trees, and mountains—is inspiring designers more than ever, who are acutely aware of the planet’s catastrophic plight. The Kirk & Kirk collection of stylish silhouettes is therefore inspired by the geological features of a river that carves its own path through the earth with its natural lines and unique facets. “Throughout the design process, we took a sculptural approach; resizing and reshaping our unique custom Italian acrylic the way a sculptor would shear rock,” says designer Karen Kirk. The frames are handcrafted in Italy and the temples are cast in alpaca silver. Available in five unique shapes, each frame has a personal touch and is named after a member of the Kirk family. The special is William of the Jungle; other colors include Jet, Smoke, Admiral, Candy and Carmine. The award-winning British brand will also be releasing exciting news on Silmo, its long-awaited range of Kirk & Kirk sunglasses.

Tyrolean-based Rolf Spectacles has launched a bold new design in its sustainable WIRE collection, with bold threads adding an artistic touch. Luna’s loose, contoured shape offers functionality and style. Rolf also introduced Spec Protect, a slim chain that attaches to your new Rolf frame to keep it safe and secure. The award-winning Austrian brand will also launch new designs in the Substance and Evolved ranges, as well as two fun additions to children’s photo frames – child-friendly design and innovation.

Jeremy Tarian approaches eyewear design as an artist passionate about his canvas.
