“If you want to understand me, don’t think too deeply. I’m just on the surface. There’s nothing behind it.”── Andy Warhol Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol, the most influential artist of the 20th century, changed the public’s impression of difficult and precious paintings with his revolutionary artistic creations of “Pop Art” and opened up a new value of commercial art. “Art should not be unattainable, it should return to daily life, integrate art with the era of commodity consumption, and popularize art.” This is the value that Andy Warhol advocated throughout his life.
More than 30 years after his death, Andy Warhol’s remarks and works have further predicted the internet celebrity era in which “everyone has a chance to become famous for 15 minutes.”
Andy Warhol’s iconic glasses, re-engraved and re-innovated
In order to convey Andy Warhol’s thoughts and culture to the world with original value, the Italian trendy eyewear brand RETROSUPERFUTURE (RSF) and the Andy Warhol Foundation have launched a ten-year eyewear product cooperation project. With a shared reverence for Andy Warhol’s art, ideas, and unique style, we pay tribute to the iconic artist of the 20th century.
Over time, the collaboration would grow deeper than the product line, becoming a statement of Warhol’s enduring legacy and deeply influencing art, design, and pop culture.
Since its establishment in 2007, RSF has been famous for its unique aesthetics and excellent manufacturing quality. It does not pursue the essence of creation but only focuses on the creation itself. Such a casual and eclectic attitude creates a unique and trendy eyewear style, which makes it more popular. RSF glasses have quickly become one of the world’s most popular eyewear brands.
RSF X ANDY WARHOL 2023 new series of styles—- LEGACY
Under the cooperation in 2023, the new eyewear style LEGACY will be launched. The design is inspired by a key item worn by Andy Warhol in the last period of his life in the mid-1980s – aviator sunglasses.
Designed in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, RSF reinterprets the iconic aviator frames that Warhol wore in a series of self-portraits created in 1986. The Andy Warhol- LEGACY style is created in six different color combinations, with a simple design, lightweight customized metal structure, and covered with pear-shaped Barberini tempered glass lenses.
Pictured left is the last self-portrait taken on Polaroid by Warhol before his death in 1987, originally created as a series of large screen paintings for an exhibition in London.
