Miscelanea invites us to explore the connection between Japanese and Mediterranean cultures through an environment where tradition and innovation coexist.
Barcelona Etnia has once again demonstrated its connection to the art world, this time with the launch of Miscelanea. The Barcelona eyewear brand presents its new Autumn/Winter 2023 collection with this event, depicting a world full of symbolism where two cultures come together: Japanese and Mediterranean.
Miscelanea depicts a unique surrealist atmosphere with female characters as protagonists, and its composition is a clear homage to the classical art of painting. In each image, elements of Japanese and Mediterranean culture and traditional and modern objects coexist. The result: paintings that intertwine two cultures, detextualize symbols, blend tradition and innovation, and offer multiple levels of interpretation. Miscelanea also revived the concept of “being nonpartisan,” a motto that has accompanied the brand since 2017, to provoke rebellion through art as a means of finding one’s own form of expression.
In this event, photographed by Biel Capllonch, Etnia Barcelona highlights the cultural and artistic heritage of two seemingly distinct distant worlds: the Mediterranean, a place that inspired and witnessed the brand’s growth, and Japan, an ancient region full of symbolism and myths and legends.
This mixture of influences is also reflected in the design of the new optical collection, which is known for its combination of natural acetate with Japanese-inspired textures and details, and its bold styling with a Mediterranean character. Notable novelties include prints representing mallow fish scales, cherry blossom colors, or circular details on temples symbolizing the rising sun
