New season, new passion! The designers at FACE A FACE continue their cultural and artistic exploration of the Italian MEMPHIS movement and have discovered surprising connections with contemporary Japanese design.
As early as 1981, Shiro Kurata received an invitation from Ettore SOTTSSAS and joined the Memphis Group. The group turned a new page in design, introducing the emotion of Japanese Shiro Kurata into the expressive power of Italian SOTTSASS! Both men shared a belief that “charm should be considered a function” – breaking with the raw concrete and minimalism of the Bauhaus trends.
With Shiro Kuromatsu, an unprecedented poetic element suddenly appears, such as the red rose in the center of his transparent glass chair. Likewise, Japanese designers like Issey Miyake, Ri Kawakubo, and Kengo Kuma express a mixture of refined and fractured aesthetics in their work. . . A fascinating contrast!
Therefore, FACE A FACE draws inspiration from this movement to create a new JAPAN NOW! The collection ranges from the sculptural cylinders of the KYOTO models to the colorful pleats of PLEATS and the unforgettable echoes of the NENDO collection. . . Each of these new concepts reflects the interplay between the subtleties of Japanese design and the exuberance of the Memphis movement.
BOCCA KUMA 1-3
Inspired by Kengo Kuma’s architectural works
the sculpted facade forms a completely feminine arch
BOCCA KUMA 1 COL.6101
Two-tone acetate
The new BOCCA introduces an architectural dimension! Its structure is balanced by horizontal color bars, which are the core graphic element of the design. Full of energy and sparkle, the sculpted frame front reveals a very feminine high arch accented by colorful little boots. The perfect combination of seriousness and relaxation!
ECHOS 1-2
Color echo around lenses
Interaction of presence and absence of contours
ECHOS 2 Col. 4329
Handmade in Italy
Vibrant and stunning, the design of ECHOS deftly handles the look and offers a color finish that seems to shape the frame: sometimes very obvious, sometimes quite subtle, the color seems to play out in these masculine and mysteriously poetic glasses resonance. An architectural concept with personality!
NENDO 1-3
High and low two-color effect
A tribute to Japanese design studio NENDO
NENDO 3 Col. 9296
Handmade in France
Inspired by shadow and light, the NENDO model pays homage to the work of the Japanese design studio of the same name. Clever milling expresses a minimalist style, creating a halo of color that carves out the frame. Two eyeliners are faintly visible in the foreground, illuminated by the silhouette of the background. An ode to chiaroscuro and the majesty of a solar eclipse!
