Introducing the new X-Series TVR® 504X
New X Series of 8mm Zylonite Acetate Exclusive for TVR® OPT Japan’s 10th Anniversary Celebration
Sabah, Japan – Following the success of the recently launched TVR® 504 6mm 2023 Edition, TVR® OPT Japan continues to reinvent the classic silhouette with new and enhanced versions of its iconic silhouette. Introducing TVR®504X, a brand new X series made of bold 8mm Japanese Zylonite material with a unique metal rim embedded inside the frame.
TVR®504X was designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of TVR®OPT Japan, embodying the ten-year spirit of “RE-MAKE=REVIVAL”, creating a series of exclusive retro-style glasses. TVR® OPT continues to bring back nostalgic memories with its timeless design, combined with modern aesthetics and unparalleled craftsmanship perfected by its master craftsmen in Fukui Sabei, Japan. TVR® 504 ha was first launched in May 2013 and is available in over 80 colors and 7 different sizes. As of today, despite being unavailable for over a year, TVR® OPT Japan still has the iconic shape available in the best four sizes, including the new on-demand size 50mm. Remaining iterations include TVR® 504 Japanese Celluloid 6mm (April 2022), TVR® 504 Vintage 1993 8mm Zylonite material (January 2022), and TVR® 506 Custom Collector’s Edition/Urban Edition (September 2022), which has received overwhelming response since launch amazing.
For the uninitiated, the TVR®504 takes its shape from original archives from the 1940s collected in a Japanese warehouse in Sabah. In its most dominant form, it is made from 5mm Zylonite material and has a unique form, also known today as the JD shape – due to the legendary James Dean and famous actor Johnny Depp is famous.
The new TVR® 504X uses a frame material called 8mm Japanese Zylonite for durability and a classic look. Inspired by the golden revival era of Japanese retro style, TVR® OPT laid the foundation for craftsmanship in 2013 by blending modern aesthetics and refined spirit to create a pragmatic and luxurious retro style. This design philosophy represents courage, fearlessness and irreverent attitude – an ode to the pursuit of ideals. The X-Series introduces a new version of the TVR®504 with a titanium sling (Windsor Rim) in the front frame. The design recreates the JD style of the 1940s and the Windsor rim details of the 1970s – offering luxurious filigree engraved metal on titanium wire rims. This embodies the perfect fusion of classic and modern. The hand-engraved arabesque titanium eyeband on the TVR® 504X is truly one of the most beautiful features of this eyepiece. It also showcases traditional Japanese craftsmanship while creating a unique aesthetic on the eyewear.
The TVR® 504X retains the original 1940s design, retaining the classic keyhole nosepiece while introducing new seven-barrel line design hinges and new gasket details for enhanced durability. Additionally, there is a gold-plated version with new Solar Platinum Metal (SPM) 3D spear rivets to enhance the collection’s luxurious look. The glasses will feature a new metal core. Since 2015, TVR® OPT has been one of the first brands to include detailed cores in temples (as seen in the Yamada Mitsukazu® x TVR® YM-001’s feather core detailing). The latest metallic detail core is inspired by the dragons of Kyoto’s Goshinji Temple. Take a closer look and you can appreciate the unique style of this dragon, which is known as Happonnirami no Ryú, also known as “The Dragon Gazes in All Directions.” Depending on the angle you look at it, the dragon on the spectacle core may appear to be descending or ascending to the heavens. Regardless of the viewing angle, it seems to be looking directly at you. This symbolism represents the brand’s timeless direction in a retro revival code. In addition, TVR® OPT is the first brand to design eyewear with the dragon as the core, a mythical creature that symbolizes good luck, protection and wisdom.
Creating these hand-engraved pattern details was a complex process for TVR® OPT, taking nearly a year to complete. It took more than six months to complete the painting and at least three months to carve the metal block. Every detail of the core is hand-carved with the utmost precision and artistry using the “Tebori” technique. This technique was first developed in the Edo period and is a showcase of Japanese arts and crafts that flourished over the centuries. It is widely used to make various items such as swords, hairpins, combs, etc. Today, there is only one “Tebori” craftsman left in Fukui’s world of eyewear manufacturing, Sabe. A small number of artisans specialize in pure gold products such as jewelry, watchmaking, and other trinkets, and the value of these products is very high due to the extremely rare and high level of handcraft involved.
The TVR®504X-X series will offer two new size options, 47mm and 49mm, to meet the increasingly diverse needs of customers. This extension ensures the esteemed customer a perfect fit and comfort. For the minimalist, the coveted TVR® 504X is available in the most popular classic black clear crystal, as well as two additional exclusive TVR® OPT colors, Champagne Gold and Smoked Brown Champagne. As a small-volume manufacturer, the newly launched TVR®504X-X series will become top collectibles for fashion lovers and eyewear collectors. Blending traditional Japanese materials and impeccable craftsmanship, the eyewear is one of the brand’s most beautiful eyepieces to date—a seamless blend of vintage charm and modern elements that are suitable for today’s wearers.
